Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Wednesday (May 11) suffered a big blow as all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja got ruled out of the remainder of the IPL 2022 season due to a rib injury.
“Ravindra Jadeja reported a bruised rib and was unavailable for Chennai Super Kings' game against Delhi Capitals on Sunday. He was under observation and based on medical advice he has been ruled out for the rest of the IPL season,” CSK said in a statement.
CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed that Jadeja had picked up the injury the match against RCB last week.
"He has an injury on his rib which he sustained during our match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (on May 04). We have only two games left and given his heavy international commitments, we thought he should not risk further injury," Viswanathan quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
"He was feeling pain while bowling and batting. So we thought that it would be wise to let him rest. We have informed the BCCI as well," he added.
Jadeja had a forgettable outing as CSK captain in the IPL 2022. Under him, the defending champions lost six out of its first eight matches. That poor start led to Jadeja relinquishing the role and MS Dhoni once again took charge of the side.
Since Dhoni took over, CSK have won two out of their three but a playoff spot looks tricky at this point of time for the four-time champions.
Apart from the captaincy, Jadeja failed to impress as an all-rounder as well. In 10 games, he scored just 116 runs and took five wickets for the Super Kings.
