IPL 2022: Bowlers shine as KKR rout MI by 52 runs to keep play-offs hopes alive

KKR kept their campaign alive | BCCI/IPLKolkata Knight Riders (KKR) registered a comprehensive 52-run victory over Mumbai Indians (MI) in Match 56 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 at DY Patil Stadium on Monday (May 9).

Asked to bat first, KKR posted 165/9 in their 20 overs with vital contributions from Venkatesh Iyer (43 off 24 balls) and Nitish Rana (43 off 26 balls).

Jasprit Bumrah starred with the ball for the five-time champions, returning with the remarkable figures of 5 for 10 in his stipulated four overs.

In reply, MI’s innings folded for a paltry 113 in 17.3 overs. It was a listless batting performance from the Rohit Sharma-led side as no one except for Ishan Kishan (51) managed to touch the 20-run mark.

Pat Cummins was the stand-out bowler for KKR, claiming three wickets by conceding 22 runs in his four overs. Andre Russell also returned with impressive figures of 2 for 22 in his 2.3 overs while Tim Southee (1-10) and Varun Chakaravarthy (1-22) chipped in with wicket apiece.

With this victory, KKR also kept their play-offs hopes alive. They are currently occupying the seventh spot on the points table with 5 wins from 12 games.
