IPL 2022: DC net bowler tests COVID positive; entire contingent in isolation- Report

The entire DC contingent has been asked to isolate in their hotel rooms.

DC team | BCCI-IPLThe second clash of the double-header day in the IPL 2022 on Sunday, May 8, 2022, between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), is in doubt as the Rishabh Pant led side is once again affected by COVID infection in the camp.

ESPNCricinfo reported that a member of the Delhi Capitals has reportedly tested positive for Covid-19 and the entire team underwent a fresh round of PCR tests on Sunday morning and was asked by IPL authorities to stay in their hotel rooms until further notice.

This is the second time the DC camp has been hit by COVID infection. Earlier Tim Seifert, Mitchell Marsh, physio Patrick Farhart and three members of support staff tested positive for the virus and their match against Punjab Kings was moved from Pune to Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai to avoid travel.

As per Indian Express reports, the person who tested positive was sharing a room with another net bowler for the DC franchise. Both of them have now been isolated. Apart from this, no details have been released yet whether the person returned a positive rapid antigen test or a positive RT-PCR test, could be confirmed.

Capitals players mingled with Super Kings on Saturday at the teams' training session. It is understood that the Super Kings have not yet been asked to undergo any fresh tests.

A CSK official revealed that it was a net bowler and the match is expected to go on as scheduled.

"We understand the match will go ahead, otherwise we would have been informed by now. It is only a net bowler and all players are in their rooms. So we do not expect changes,” the CSK official was quoted by Cricbuzz.

The Rishabh Pant-led side have 10 points from 10 games, with five wins and as many losses, and remains in contention for a Playoffs berth. Their other three games after Sunday's fixture are against Rajasthan Royals on May 11, Punjab Kings on May 16, and Mumbai Indians on May 21.
