On Thursday, David Warner's undefeated 92 helped Delhi Capitals (DC) defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 21 runs in the ongoing IPL 2022. Many experts dubbed the contest a vengeance game since Warner was at his most destructive form against his previous team, with whom he had a rough parting after a tumultuous IPL 2021 season.
After the dismissals of opener Mandeep Singh and Mitchell Marsh against SRH, Warner fought alone for the majority of the innings until finding an able partner in Rovman Powell. Warner remained unbeaten on 92 off 58 balls, while Powell hammered an unbeaten 35-ball 67 to help Delhi reach 207 for three, after being asked to bat first.
For his outstanding performance against his former IPL team, Warner was later named Player of the Match.
While many speculated that Warner was playing for retribution, he was seen laughing with several of his old SRH teammates. Warner even posted a selfie with Kane Williamson, and Warner wrote an impassioned tribute to the New Zealand captain.
“Things you love to see,” DC captioned the post while Warner wrote, “I have missed you bro @kane_s_w #cricket #mates.”
"Me too," Rashid Khan, a former member of SRH, said in response to Warner's post.
