Ruturaj Gaikwad was livid after his dismissal on 99 | GettyRuturaj Gaikwad starred with the bat for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Match 46 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 at MCA Stadium, Pune on Sunday (May 1).

Invited to bat first, the defending champions got off to a record-breaking start as the duo of Gaikwad and Devon Conway took the SRH attack to the cleaners.

In particular, Gaikwad was severe on the Sunrisers bowlers, completing his half-century off 33 balls and taking CSK to the 100-run mark in the 11th over.

After completing his fifty, Ruturaj Gaikwad went berserk and started dealing in boundaries. He was looking set for his second IPL ton but fell agonizingly short by just 1 run. T Natarajan dismissed him in the 18th over for 99 off 57 balls, which included 6 fours and as many sixes.

In the process, Gaikwad added 182 runs for the first wicket Conway – the best opening stand in this year’s IPL and the fourth highest overall.

Devon Conway played the role of second fiddle till Gaikwad was in the middle. After his dismissal, the Kiwi batter took charge and smashed boundaries regularly. He eventually finished with 85 not out off 55 balls (8 fours and 4 sixes) to take CSK to a mammoth 202/2 in 20 overs.

For his stunning display with the bat, Ruturaj Gaikwad received rich praise from the cricket fraternity on Twitter.
