After IPL 15, Team India will face South Africa in a five-match T20I series, starting 9th June.

Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag feels that Team India should give opportunities to Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan in the upcoming T20I series against South Africa at home.

India is set to lock horns with South Africa in the five-match T20I series after the conclusion of the IPL 2022. The likes of Umran, Arshdeep and Avesh have impressed many with their performances in the ongoing IPL 15.

The pace trio has been the mainstay of their respective team’s bowling department and there have been calls regarding their inclusion in the national set-up.

Avesh recently made his debut for India and is continuing his good form in the IPL 15. Umran has been exceptional with the ball and has picked 15 wickets in eight IPL games at an economy rate of 7.97.

Whereas Arshdeep has already made himself a reputation as death overs specialist. He has earned rich praises for his bowling in slog overs and has an economy rate of 5.66 in the death overs.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Virender Sehwag said that Arshdeep Singh should get a chance in India’s home series against South Africa in June as then only it’ll be known how he bowls on the international stage.

He further suggested that BCCI should also pick Umran and Avesh in the upcoming series and can rest the main players for the England series.

"You are talking about the T20 World Cup, I would say he should get a chance in the next series against South Africa in June. You'll know how he bowls against an international team and he'll get some experience too.

“You can give your main bowlers a break because they have to play the Test in England and there are T20s in England as well,” Virender Sehwag said.

Citing names of a few emerging fast-bowlers in the IPL, Sehwag hailed the BCCI for building a strong pool of players who can compete amongst each other for the first 11 and be rotated when needed as well.

“Those who have performed in the IPL can be picked for the home series... Umran Malik, Arshdeep, and Avesh Khan can be tried. In the last few years, the BCCI has done a great job because they have formed a pool of 40-50 players who are contracted and they are rotated in the squad.

“You will remember that we had a team in England and we played limited-overs series in Sri Lanka as well. We had two teams representing India, which means the player pool is very good and they take care of them,” he said.

The first game between India and South Africa will be played on 9th June in Delhi followed by the second and third games on 12th and 14th June in Cuttack and Vishakhapatnam respectively. The fourth and fifth match is slated to take place on the 17th and 19th of June in Rajkot and Bengaluru.
