Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) skipper Kane Williamson on Wednesday (27th April) talked about the positives after his side’s loss to Gujarat Titans (GT) in the 40th Match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 in Mumbai. He, in particular, lauded Umran Malik’s effort.

After winning five consecutive games, SRH suffered a disappointing 5-wicket loss at the hands of GT. They didn’t put any foot wrong but the heroics of Rashid Khan and Rahul Tewatia outshined their effort.

Invited to bat first, SRH on account of half-centuries by Abhishek Sharma (65), Aiden Markram (56) and a brutal finish of 25* in just 6 balls by Shashank Singh helped the Williamson-led side post a gigantic total of 195 runs on the board.

Defending the target, they did pretty well as Umran Malik (5/25) was at his fiery best and took all five wickets of GT to put them on the back foot. But in the end Tewatia (40*) and Rashid (31*) played a blinder of an innings to seal the match for their side. They smashed Marco Jansen for 25 runs in the last over to help their side reclaim the top spot on the points table.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Kane Williamson called it a fantastic game and said that it’ll be great learning for them. He lauded Shashank for finishing the innings on high and also credited GT for playing ‘outstandingly well’.

“It was a fantastic game of cricket that ebbed and flowed throughout the 40 overs, it's a game of very fine margins. Could have gone either way, but great learning for us. Another strong performance at the top of the table though.

“It was a fantastic finish by Shashank Singh. He played beautifully. Credit to Gujarat as they played outstandingly well. We'll take positives out of this game," Kane Williamson said.

Williamson also lauded Malik for his performance and said that there’s a lot for his side to learn from this game.

“He (Malik) has been bowling beautifully, an outstanding performance by him. If you are not on the money, the ball can fly anywhere. He (Rashid) has done it already in this tournament, and he has done it again. There's a lot of learning for us, but with two strong sides, such things happen," he said.

The SRH skipper also backed Jansen to come back strongly in the next game.

“He (Jansen) will bounce back nicely, there have been a number of games like these. Sometimes you are blown away by the better side, credit to them (Gujarat) as they played outstandingly well," he said.

SRH will next face Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Monday (1st May) at MCA Stadium in Pune.
