Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan celebrate GT's victory | BCCI/IPLGujarat Titans (GT) continued their impressive run in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) as they defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by five wickets in a high-scoring thriller at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Wednesday (April 27).

Asked to bat first, SRH rode on half-centuries from Abhishek Sharma (65 off 42 balls) and Aiden Markram (56 off 40 balls) to pile up a massive 195/6 in their 20 overs. Shashank Singh also played a notable cameo of 6-ball 25* in the lower order.

Mohammad Shami was the pick of the bowlers for GT, claiming three scalps by conceding 39 runs in his four overs. Yash Dayal (1-24) and Alzarri Joseph (1-35) also returned with wicket apiece.

In reply, the Titans got off to a brilliant start as the duo of Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill put on 69 runs for the opening wicket. Umran Malik drew the first blood for SRH, removing Gill for 22.

Umran didn’t stop there as he ran through the GT batting line-up with his fiery spell. The speedster dismissed Hardik Pandya (10), Saha (68 off 38 balls), David Miller (17), Abhinav Manohar (0) in quick succession to reduce Gujarat to 140/5.

After Umran Malik’s sensational spell of 5 for 25, GT needed 46 runs off 24 balls to win the game and it was then Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan stepped up to the plate. The duo kept the team in the chase by amassing 9 runs in the 17th over, 12 runs in the 18th over and 13 runs in the penultimate over.

With 22 required off the last over, Tewatia (40* off 21 balls) smashed Marco Jansen for a huge six in the first delivery followed by a single while Rashid (31* off 11 balls) took the team over the line with three sixes in the last four balls.

For holding their nerves during the intense run-chase, Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan garnered rich praise from the cricket fraternity on Twitter.
