IPL 2022: Tom Moody reveals the secret behind SRH's strong comeback in ongoing season

After losing first 2 matches, SRH have won all their 5 matches in a row in the ongoing IPL 15.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have made a stunning comeback in the ongoing IPL 2022 after losing their first two matches and are now comfortably sitting in second place in the points table with 10 points from the 7 matches that they have played so far in the tournament.

On April 23, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) crushed Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 9 wickets to jump to the second spot in the IPL 2022 points table, as well as extend their winning streak in the league, as the franchise recorded its fifth straight win in the tournament.

Following SRH’s fifth straight victory in the IPL 15, the head coach, Tom Moody, has credited the role clarity for the team’s success in the tournament.

He also hailed his bowlers for stunning efforts to restrict the RCB to 68 in 16.1 overs, with Marco Jansen (3/25) and T Natarajan (3/10) each snaring three wickets. For SRH, Abhishek Sharma was the highest run-scorer with 47 off 28 balls.

Tom Moody said at the post-match press conference: “We are very specific in our training as to where we are playing, who the opposition is. We make sure that the players have the understanding of what their roles are and when they are called upon in certain stages (they deliver).”

The coach further added, “We knew the ball would swing today and knew Bhuvi (Bhuvneshwar Kumar) and Marco can use it to their advantage. Swinging the ball provides a challenge in the early overs especially when the opposition is trying to get a reasonably positive start.”

Meanwhile, Jansen bowled a fiery second over to claim the key wickets of Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli, and Anuj Rawat, and Moody felt those first six balls were the turning point of the match.

He said, “It was a superb first over, taking three top wickets and opening the game so early for us in the powerplay was the difference in the game, RCB struggled to recover from it. He took advantage of there and put pressure on the opposition from the get-go. It was a great performance.”

Hailing Natarajan for his impressive performance against the RCB, the SRH head coach stated: “Natarajan is fit now, last year he wasn't. He has worked extremely hard in the last 6 months. He understands his role, he has a very particular role and one of the best at doing it.”

Moody concluded, “He is always under pressure, bowling the tough overs at the back of the powerplay and at the back of the innings when teams are looking to go after you. He has the skill set to manage that.”
