Faf du Plessis was a disappointed captain as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) suffered a humiliating 9-wicket defeat at the hands of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on Saturday (April 23).

Asked to bat first, RCB were bundled out for a paltry 68 in 16.1 overs. It was a shambolic batting display from the Bangalore-based franchise as only two batters managed to cross the double-digit mark. Suyash Prabhudessai was the top scorer in the innings with 15.

Speaking after the game, Du Plessis said they need to find a way to set the foundation of a score in the initial overs and is ready to be a bit circumspect as the team is losing too many wickets.

“The first four overs, we shouldn’t have lost so many wickets, it was a bit spicy upfront. We still got to find a way to set a foundation (in the upcoming games), even if it’s sacrificing a few runs in the powerplay. We just needed to get through that phase where the ball was swinging and seaming, one you get through it, it becomes easier," the RCB captain said after the defeat.

Marco Jansen wreaked havoc on RCB’s top-order with the excellent figures of 3/25 while T Natarajan (3-10), J Suchith (2-12), Umran Malik (1-13) and Bhuvneshwar (1-8) ran through the middle and lower order.

“This wicket looked the best, the expectations were pretty high, it was a very good wicket. There are no excuses though. Jansen bowled well in his first over swinging the ball both ways and got the big wickets," Du Plessis added.

In reply, SRH rode on Abhishek Sharma’s 28-ball 47 and skipper Kane Williamson’s unbeaten 16 to overhaul the target with 72 deliveries to spare.

Faf du Plessis wants his troops to take some learning from this poor outing.

“You want to make sure you don’t get a lot emotional, it was a bad day at the office, but you need to keep your chin up and need to get the learning from it. As a team we need to move forward, it’s a long tournament," he concluded.

RCB will take on Rajasthan Royals in their next match on April 26.
