IPL 2022: “Gully Cricket”, Twitterati react as Rishabh Pant asks DC batters to leave pitch after being denied no ball

Rishabh Pant protest the umpire's decision in the game against RR.

Rishabh Pant | TwitterThe 34th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) grabbed the headlines for an ugly controversy over a ‘no-ball’ decision.

Chasing 223 to win, DC needed 36 runs off the last over. Rovman Powell smoked Obed McCoy’s first three deliveries for sixes, making the equation 18 off the last three balls. However, a controversy erupted on the third delivery as the Delhi players and support staff members protested for a waist high no-ball.

In particular, DC skipper Rishabh Pant was furious as the on-field umpires didn’t go upstairs to check whether the delivery was fair or not. In fact, Pant asked Powell and Kuldeep Yadav to come back to the dugout and also sent one of DC’s coaches, Pravin Amre, on the field to have a word with the umpires.

The incident drew mixed reactions from the fans. While some felt Rishabh Pant was right in expressing his dissent, many slammed the DC captain for his unruly behaviour.

Here are the reactions:

After that incident, Obed McCoy bowled brilliantly as he conceded only two runs and picked the wicket of Rovman Powell to seal the match for RR by 15 runs. Prasidh Krishna starred with the ball for the Royals, returning with the figures of 3 for 22 in his four overs.

Earlier, RR rode on opener Jos Buttler’s dazzling century (116 off 65 balls) to pile up a massive 222/2 in 20 overs. Skipper Sanju Samson (46* off 19 balls) and Devdutt Padikkal (54 off 35 balls) also made significant contributions with the bat.
