After a dismal IPL 2021 season with the Sunrisers Hyderabad, David Warner was acquired by the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the IPL 2022 mega auctions for INR 6.25 crores. This move has clearly paid off, as the southpaw, along with Prithvi Shaw, have been outstanding at the top of the order.
The 35-year-old has compiled 191 runs in just 4 matches at a strike rate of more than 150. DC took on the Punjab Kings at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday (April 20).
On the back of a brilliant bowling performance by Kuldeep Yadav and Akshar Patel, PBKS were all out for just 115 in their 20 overs. The chase led by Shaw (41 off 20 balls) and David Warner (60* off 30 balls) helped the DC team cross the line in the 11th over, boosting the net run rate significantly.
While speaking to Star Sports, Warner has admitted that his daughters question him on not getting hundreds like Jos Butler does, who is the Orange Cap holder currently and has already scored two centuries for the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2022.
"My kids just want to know why I cannot get a hundred. It's not easy (laughs). 60 is not enough these days. They keep watching Jos (Buttler) score those hundreds and keep asking me why I can't hit the ball out of the park like him. It's great that the little ones around the world keep watching this game," he said.
Speaking about the match, the left-hander said the DC bowlers made life easier for the batters after bowling PBKS out for 115. He added DC were grateful to be able to get out of their hotel rooms and play the match.
"I think the bowlers did a fantastic job and made it easier for us. We had to go hard in the powerplay during the chase. It was a different surface compared to the last night, but credit to our bowlers. Was grateful that we were able to get out of our rooms and play tonight (Wednesday)”
On his destructive partnership with Prithvi Shaw, Warner said, "I was just trying to be positive and am happy to have played with Shaw.. For me it's about sticking to the basics and I tried to put my best footwork forward, hopefully, I'll be able to do going forward."
DC will next take on the Rajasthan Royals on Friday (April 22) at the Wankhede Stadium.
