India batting legend Sunil Gavaskar believes that Dinesh Karthik, who has impressed with his hitting skills for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the ongoing IPL 2022, can play the role of a finisher for India in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 to be played later this year in Australia.

This IPL 2022 season, Karthik has been finishing the innings for Royal Challengers Bangalore with alarming regularity. With an incredible strike rate of 209.57, Karthik has scored 32, 14, 44, 7, 34, and 66 runs. He has an average of 197.00 after going undefeated in five of his six innings.

"He said he wants to be a part of the Indian Team for the T20 World Cup. So, what I am saying is don't look at his age, just look at what he's producing," Gavaskar told Star Sports.

"He's just changing the complexion of the game with his performance. He's doing it for his team. He's doing the job that you can expect him to do at number 6 or 7 at the (T20) World Cup (in October-November)," Gavaskar added.

Karthik's best performance this season came against Delhi Capitals, when he batted brilliantly against Mustafizur Rahman and Khaleel Ahmed, scoring 66* and helping RCB to 189/5. The match was won by RCB by 16 runs, and Karthik was named Player-of-the-Match.

The 36-year-old has played in 26 Tests, 94 One-Day Internationals, and 32 Twenty-20 Internationals for India, most recently in the ICC World Cup semi-final loss to New Zealand in 2019.
