IPL 2022: “Really wanted to play but will come back better”, CSK's Deepak Chahar pens an emotional note

The CSK pacer has been completely ruled out of the IPL 2022 season.

Deepak Chahar | BCCI/IPL

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pacer Deepak Chahar has been ruled out of the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) due to a back injury. The news of Chahar picking up a fresh injury emerged a few days back, while the IPL has confirmed the ruling out through a release.

After suffering a quadriceps injury during the T20I series between India and the West Indies in February, the Indian quick was recovering at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, where he suffered a back injury during the rehab.

The 29-year-old turned to Twitter shortly after his unavailability was announced, promising his fans that he would return stronger and better.

Here’s the tweet,

He was expected to play the latter half of the tournament for CSK but the back injury has shunned those chances. The BCCI is reported to be unwilling to take a chance since it wants the seamer to be fit and ready for the T20 World Cup in October.

In recent seasons, the right-arm seamer has become MS Dhoni's go-to man. He grabbed 20 wickets in the 2019 season, and 26 wickets in the two seasons after that, many of which came in the powerplay overs. He made his international debut in 2018 and has since proven to be a reliable player for his country.

Chahar, who has been playing for the Chennai team since 2018, was picked by the franchise once again at the mega auctions in February this year for INR 14 crores, making him the second-most expensive player at the auction only next to Mumbai Indians' Ishan Kishan who was picked for 15.25 crores.
