IPL 2022: “Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings look good at bottom of points table”- Virender Sehwag

Mumbai has lost 5 matches in a row, while CSK lost 4 matches before their first win.

The Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have had a disappointing start to the IPL 2022, as they started the season with four straight losses. MI is at the bottom place in the points table after five defeats in as many games. CSK has also struggled this season, winning only one match out of their five games.

Both teams have been hampered by a dearth of veteran bowlers who can consistently generate outcomes. CSK boasts a brand-new Indian pace attack, and the loss of Deepak Chahar has hurt them a lot. CSK used to rely on the right-arm bowler to take early wickets in the powerplay.

Given their current status, it's possible that these two teams may have a difficult time making the playoffs. In the midst of this, former India opener Virender Sehwag has spoken out about MI and CSK, saying that they "look good" at the bottom of the table.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Sehwag said: "I said it before itself, let the rich teams stay at the bottom, Chennai and Mumbai, they look good at the bottom of the table. It is difficult to win after two such runouts. I don't think that Suryakumar Yadav knew that the final over will be bowled by either Odean Smith or Liam Livingstone. Had he known that as much as 25 runs could have been kept in the bank for the final over."

MI is the most successful team in the IPL, having won five titles. They haven't been particularly consistent in clearing the league stage, but they have won the IPL more times than any other side.

CSK has won the IPL four times and is the most consistent team in the league's history. Between 2008 and 2021, CSK cleared the league stage in 11 of the 12 seasons under MS Dhoni's leadership. Before the start of the IPL 2022, Dhoni handed over the captaincy of CSK to Ravindra Jadeja.

Going forward, both teams have their work cut out for them, and qualifying for the playoffs will be a difficult feat.
