The 17th match of the IPL 2022 saw Chennai Super Kings (CSK) take on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on April 9, 2022. Both the teams came into this match without a win, with CSK on a three-match losing streak and SRH losing their first two games.
SRH skipper Kane Williamson won the toss and chose to bowl first. SRH gave debuts to Marco Jansen and Shashank Singh, while CSK handed a debut to Maheesh Theekshana.
CSK struggled on a slow-paced pitch and managed to reach 154/7 with Moeen Ali top-scoring with 48 and Ambati Rayudu making 27 and Ravindra Jadeja scoring 23 runs. Washington Sundar and T Natarajan picked two wickets each for SRH.
In reply, Sunrisers started cautiously with Williamson holding one end up while Abhishek went after the bowlers. The duo added 89 runs in 12.1 overs for the opening wicket, before Williamson fell for 32 runs to Mukesh Choudhary.
Abhishek Sharma continued to milk runs and made 75 in 50 balls with 5 fours and 3 sixes before getting out to Dwayne Bravo. In the end, Rahul Tripathi made 39* in 15 balls to take SRH to the finish line with 8 wickets to spare and 14 balls in hand.
The cricket fraternity was all praises for the SRH lodging their first game in the IPL 2022 and also reacted to CSK losing four matches in four on social media.
