Gujarat Titans (GT) batter Shubman Gill on Friday (8th April) talked about his match-winning knock against Punjab Kings (PBKS). He said that he’s trying his level best to hit the ball hard.

Gujarat Titans registered their third consecutive win of the IPL 2022 season after they defeated PBKS by 6 wickets. While it was Rahul Tewatia who stole the limelight with his two sixes in the end, Gill made sure that his side remains in the game while chasing the mammoth target of 190 runs.

Opening the batting, Gill gave his side a sensational start. He scored a masterful 96 off 59 balls and helped his side win the match. His knock was laced with 11 fours and 1 six. The right-hander fell just 4 runs short of his maiden IPL hundred as he perished on the last ball of the 19th over.

His knock was lauded by many fans and pundits and even earned him the Player of the Match award. Notably, he also registered his highest score in the IPL with this innings. Gill surpassed his mark of 84 runs, which he scored in GT’s previous encounter against DC.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Shubman Gill said that it was important for him to keep the scoreboard ticking and he was hitting the ball and finding the gaps well.

“It is important to keep the scoreboard ticking. It is important to hit those gaps because this outfield (Brabourne) is rapid. It is just about execution. It was just one of those days where I was hitting the ball well and finding the gaps as well,” Shubman Gill said.

Gill said that he’s hitting the ball really hard and as an opener, his job is to bat through the innings and make the job easier for big-hitters in the end.

"I am hitting the ball hard, trust me. I am doing my level best to hit it hard. It might not look that way. As an opener, I have to bat through the innings, so that it is easier for the big-hitters to hit it in the end. Instead of not thinking in the nets, I try and work and reduce my dot balls as much as possible," he said.

Gujarat Titans are currently placed second on the points table. They will next face Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday (11th April) at DY Patil Stadium.
