Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Rishabh Pant on Thursday (7th April) talked about his side’s loss against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in match 15 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 in Mumbai. He said that as a batting unit his team was 10-15 runs short.
DC suffered their second consecutive loss of the IPL 15 after LSG pounded them by 6 wickets. Invited to bat first, Prithvi Shaw took his side off the flyer with a brutal 34-ball 61 runs knock. However, the Rishabh Pant-led side failed to capitalise on the start they got as they struggled to time the ball.
Skipper Pant’s unbeaten 36-ball 39 runs and Sarfaraz Khan 36* runs helped DC post a fighting total of 149 on the board. Defending the target, they started decently but failed to take the wickets in the powerplay as KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock scored 73 runs for the opening partnership.
DC then bowled brilliantly in the middle overs to put pressure on the LSG but De Kock’s 80-run knock powered the Rahul-led side to the 6 wicket victory. The Pant-led side took the match to the last over but Ayush Badoni (10*) yet again played a brilliant knock under pressure to take his side home.
Speaking at the post-match presentation, Rishabh Pant admitted that his side was 10-15 runs short. He credited LSG's Avesh Khan and Jason Holder for brilliant bowling at the death.
He also revealed the chat he had with his team before the second innings and highlighted that not taking any wickets in the powerplay also added to their loss.
“When the dew is like that you can’t be complaining, as a batting unit we were 10-15 short, at the end Avesh and Holder pulled it back, credit to them.
“We were talking about giving 100% till the last ball of the 40th over, no matter what happens [on his chat to the team before the start of the 2nd innings].
“The powerplay was fine, we didn’t get any wicket, our spin attack did well in the middle overs but in the end we were 10-15 short,” Rishabh Pant said.
Delhi Capitals will next lock horns against Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday (10th April) in Mumbai.
