Suryakumar and Tilak Varma added 83 runs for the 6th wicket | IPL-BCCIMumbai Indians (MI) gave a debut to their young South African star Dewald Brevis as they faced off against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 14th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) on April 6, 2022, in Pune’s Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium.

Mumbai Indians came into this match looking for their first win, while KKR came having won two out of their three matches.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to bowl first. KKR also made two changes, with Pat Cummins coming in for Tim Southee and Shivam Mavi making way for Rasikh Salam Dar.

MI also brought in Suryakumar Yadav for Anmolpreet Singh, while Tim David made way for Dewald Brevis. Brevis had created quite a buzz as he ended the U19 World Cup 2022 as the highest run-getter and was dubbed by fans and his teammates as ‘Baby AB’

Umesh Yadav was once again in the thick of things, as he removed Rohit Sharma for 3 runs as Sam Billings took an excellent catch running backward, after the MI captain top-edged a pull shot in the 3rd over of the innings.

Dewald Brevis impressed on his IPL debut for MI | IPL-BCCIDewald Brevis then showed off his skillset hitting 29 runs in 19 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes. One of those sixes included a no-look maximum against Varun Chakravarthy and displayed the talent of someone with the exceptional judgment of shot-making.

MI was finally rescued by Suryakumar Yadav (52 in 36 balls) and Tilak Varma (38* in 27 balls), who added 83 runs for the sixth wicket. Also, Kieron Pollard’s 22* in 5 balls with 3 sixes in the last over took MI to a defendable total of 161/4 in 20 overs.

Pat Cummins (2/49), Umesh Yadav and Varun Chakravarthy were the wicket-takers for KKR.

Ace commentator Harsha Bhogle was impressed with Brevis' knock and tweeted: "Liked the little I saw of Brevis."

The Twitterverse went mad with excitement on seeing the young Brevis bat for MI and lauded his short but amazing innings.
