Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) registered their second victory of the ongoing IPL season as they defeated Rajasthan Royals (RR) by four wickets at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday (April 5).
Chasing 170 to win, RCB were reeling at 87/5 but the duo of Shahbaz Ahmed and Dinesh Karthik stepped up to the plate in the pressure situation, adding 67 runs for the sixth wicket in double quick time to put the team on the brink of victory.
While Shahbaz fell for 26-ball 45, Karthik held the one end firmly. He remained unbeaten on 44 off 23 deliveries while Harshal Patel (9*) hit the final six to take RCB home.
After the game, RCB skipper Faf du Plessis heaped praise on Karthik, saying the latter needs to put his name back in international cricket. The captain also lauded the wicketkeeper batters' agility on the field.
"I think you have to [stay fit and move well on the field], you mind has to be like that. My mind is certainly like I wanna go to the most important positions, I wanna run the fastest, I wanna run the furthest, be the fittest. That's important for DK [Karthik] as well. DK is playing his best cricket. I think he needs to put his name back in the international cricket, doesn't he?" Du Plessis told Harsha Bhogle in the post-match presentation ceremony.
After which, the RCB captain was asked whether he is the fastest on the field in the RCB camp. To which, Faf replied: "Virat's up there! I'll say that just to please the fans that Virat is the quickest one."
Royal Challengers Bangalore will lock horns with Mumbai Indians in their next match on April 9.
