IPL 2022: "CSK will find it difficult, if openers don't score": Shastri feels captain Jadeja is under pressure

CSK lost both their IPL 2022 matches so far.

Ravi Shastri, former India coach, says Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper Ravindra Jadeja is under pressure following back-to-back defeats in the IPL 2022, and that the team's openers must find form in order for the team to succeed.

On Sunday, Chennai Super Kings will face Punjab Kings in their third IPL 2022 match at Mumbai's Brabourne Stadium. Both clubs have lost their previous games and come into this match with a losing record.

While the PBKS were defeated by the Kolkata Knight Riders, the CSK were defeated by the Lucknow Super Giants in a close match. When Mayank Agarwal's side takes on Ravindra Jadeja's, it would be intriguing to watch who wins.

"It's a cause for concern when both openers are not performing. It's very important for one of the openers to strike form as soon as possible because they have lost two matches. There’s a new captain at the helm, and he’s under pressure. Yes, Dhoni is in form but if one of those openers doesn’t score then CSK will find it difficult in this tournament," Shastri told ESPNcricinfo.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, according to Shastri, should give himself time to score runs and play an anchor position in the innings. Ruturaj, the IPL 2021 Orange Cap winner, was dismissed for a duck in the first game by KKR pacer Umesh Yadav and could only add one run in the second before being run out by Ravi Bishnoi.

"Ruturaj needs to give himself some time. He’s a good timer of the ball, he can make up for the slow starts later because he has a lot of shots. If he’s a bit careful at the start and gets a bit used to the pace of the wicket, the runs will automatically come These pitches are good for batting. In comparison to last year, there’s more bounce on this wicket and the ball is coming onto the bat nicely," Shastri added.
