IPL 2022: Cricket fraternity lauds MI’s young gun, Tilak Varma, for his 61 against RR

This was Tilak Varma's first half-century in IPL | IPL-BCCIThe 9th match of the IPL 2022 was the first encounter of the doubleheader on April 2nd, 2022, and played between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at the DY Patil Stadium. Young Tilak Varma was the subject of praise from the cricket fraternity for his maiden IPL fifty in this match.

MI captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bowl first. MI went in with an unchanged XI, while RR brought in Navdeep Saini for injured Nathan Coulter-Nile.

RR finished their 20 overs making 193/8 with Jos Buttler making 100 in 67 balls with 5 sixes and 11 fours to his name. Sanju Samson slammed 30 in 21 balls, while Shimron Hetmyer provided the fireworks in the last few overs, hitting 35 in 14 balls with 3 sixes and 3 fours.

Jasprit Bumrah and Tymal Mills were the best picks of the bowlers from the Mumbai Indians’ side as they picked three wickets each.

In reply, RR picked Rohit Sharma for 10 and Anmolpreet Singh for 5 runs as Mumbai Indians didn’t start well. But then Ishan Kishan made 54 with 5 fours and 1 four and added 81 runs for the third wicket with young Tilak Varma.

Varma, on the other hand, impressed one and all as he faced both experienced spinners in Yuzvendra Chahal and R Ashwin with elan and thumped the pace bowler as well. He slammed 61 in 33 balls with 5 sixes and 3 fours.

His knock came to an end when R Ashwin castled him with a perfect off-spinner as Varma looked to sweep him.

The cricket fraternity was in awe of Tilak Varma’s talent and praised him for his knock on Twitter.
