Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) recorded their first-ever win by six wickets over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Match 7 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday (March 31). The defending champions CSK have now lost their first two games of the season, something that has happened for the first time in their remarkable IPL history.

LSG captain KL Rahul won the toss and elected to bowl first, as has been the trend in the tournament. Robin Uthappa (50), Shivam Dube (49), and Moeen Ali (35) batted really well to help CSK finish with an impressive total of 210/7 in their 20 overs. Former captain MS Dhoni chipped in with an unbeaten 16 in 6 balls, completing 7,000 T20 runs in the process. Ravi Bishnoi, Andrew Tye and Avesh Khan took two wickets each for LSG.

LSG got off to a fine start of 99 in their chase of the massive target, as KL Rahul (40) and Quinton de Kock (61) laid a strong foundation. Evin Lewis (55*) did the rest with brisk contributions from Deepak Hooda (13) and Ayush Badoni (19*).

Only Dewald Pretorius (2/31) from CSK could manage to create an impression with the ball in difficult conditions with heavy dew forming on the ground, as LSG completed the win with three balls to spare. Dwayne Bravo with his 171st wicket became the leading wicket-taker in IPL history, going past Lasith Malinga, but the defeat soured the occasion.

After the match, MS Dhoni and LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir were seen having a long conversation which excited the fans of both the great captains who won six titles between them, apart from their international heroics for India, with the most famous one being their match-winning partnership in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.
