IPL 2022: Cricket fraternity reacts as RCB defeat KKR in a low-scoring thriller after bowlers shine

RCB chased down KKR's total of 128/10 with four balls to spare.

Wanindu Hasaranga earned the Player of the Match award for his four wickets | BCCI/IPLRoyal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) registered their first victory in the ongoing IPL season as they defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by three wickets at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday (March 30).

In a low-scoring affair, KKR got bowled out for 128 in 18.5 overs after being asked to bat first. It was a listless batting performance as Andre Russell was the top scorer with 25.

Wanindu Hasaranga was the stand-out bowler for RCB, claiming four wickets by conceding 20 runs in his four overs. Akash Deep (3-45) and Harshal Patel (2-11) also returned with impressive figures and shared five scalps between them.

In reply, the Bangalore-based franchise lost their top three for just 17 runs. While Umesh Yadav dismissed Anju Rawat (0) and Virat Kohli (12), Tim Southee removed Faf du Plessis (5).

The duo of David Willey and Sherfane Rutherford added 45 runs for the fourth wicket to bail the team out of trouble. Sunil Narine broke the stand by dismissing Willey for 18.

Afterwards, Sherfane (28) put on 39 runs along with Shahbaz Ahmed (27) to take RCB over the 100-run mark. However, both of them got out in quick succession as RCB found themselves struggling at 107/6. Wanindu Hasaranga too got out cheaply, which saw Bangalore slipping to 111/7 after 17.5 overs.

17 runs were needed off the last two overs and the pair of Dinesh Karthik and Harshal Patel stepped up to plate for RCB. While Harshal hit two boundaries in the penultimate over, Karthik sealed the deal in the first two deliveries of the last over with a six and four.

Cricket experts on Twitter enjoyed the low-scoring thriller and congratulated the RCB on their first win of IPL 2022.
