IPL 2022: SRH captain Kane Williamson fined INR 12 lakhs for slow over rate against RR

SRH was defeated by RR in a relatively lop-sided encounter.

IPL | Kane Williamson and Sanju Samson as SRH take on RR in Pune

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) faced Rajasthan Royals (RR) in match 5 of IPL 2022, at the MCA Stadium in Pune. It was the first match for both these teams this year, and with the IPL auction dynamics leading to a lot of new faces in every team, the fans were buzzing with excitement to see their favorite stars in action in new colors.

However, it turned out to be a one sided contest with the Sanju Samson-led Royals proving to be a little too tough to handle for the Sunrisers of Kane Williamson.

The RR middle-order ripped apart SRH's bowling attack, depositing sixes at will, taking the team to 210/6. What promised to be an exciting contest at the halfway stage, soon turned out to be a disappointment as the Hyderabad batsmen had no answers for RR's new-look bowling attack.

The result was a comprehensive 61-run win for RR, giving them an NRR boost right at the start of the tournament.

As if things weren't bad enough for SRH, their captain Kane Williamson was fined Rs.12 lakhs for his side maintaining a slow over-rate during the first innings.

"The Sunrisers Hyderabad have been fined after they maintained a slow over-rate during their IPL 2022 match against Rajasthan Royals at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune on March 29. As it was the team's first offense of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offenses, Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Kane Williamson was fined Rs 12 lakhs," the IPL stated in a media statement.

Williamson would look to take control and get SRH back on track after the abysmal start to their campaign when they next face-off against LSG on April 4.
