GT won the battle of debutants against LSG by 5 wickets in Wankhede.

LSG's KL Rahul with GT's Hardik Pandya after the match | BCCI-IPLLucknow Super Giants (LSG) led by KL Rahul and Gujarat Titans (GT) captained by Hardik Pandya made their Indian Premier League debuts in the 5th match of the IPL 2022 in Mumbai on March 28.

The match went right down to the wire with the Titans coming out winners by 5 wickets and 2 balls remaining.

LSG batted first after GT captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and chose to bowl. After being reduced to 29/4 thanks to Mohammad Shami, LSG somehow managed to make 158/6 in 20 overs, mainly due to half-centuries from Deepak Hooda and Ayush Badoni.

In reply, GT was also rocked at the start of their chase by Dushmantha Chameera removing Shubman Gill for 0 and Vijay Shankar for 4. However, Matthew Wade, David Miller, and Hardik Pandya made scores in 30s to bring some stability to the innings.

But after they got out, Rahul Tewatia (40*) and debutant Abhinav Manohar (15*) came together and took GT past the finishing line.

After the loss, LSG captain KL Rahul posted a motivational message for his teammates and fans on Twitter, which read: “This one felt like a win because of the way we fought. Proud @LucknowIPL

However, this message didn’t sit well with the cricket fans on Twitter who felt that KL Rahul was over in his mind to call such a close loss a win and roasted the LSG captain badly.
