Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) opened their IPL 2022 campaign in an impressive fashion as they defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by six wickets in the tournament opener on Saturday (March 26).
Asked to bat first, the defending champions posted 131/5 in 20 overs on the back of former skipper MS Dhoni’s unbeaten 50 off 38 balls.
Speedster Umesh Yadav was the stand-out bowler for KKR, claiming two wickets by conceding 20 runs in his four overs. Spinner Varun Chakaravarthy (1-23) also returned with impressive bowling figures.
In reply, KKR rode on opener Ajinkya Rahane’s 34-ball 44 and handy contributions from Sam Billings (25), Nitish Rana (21), and Shreyas Iyer (20*) to overhaul the target with nine balls to spare.
Dwayne Bravo starred with the ball for CSK, taking three wickets by conceding 20 runs in his four overs.
