The first match of the IPL 2022 began in Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on March 26 at the Wankhede Stadium. KKR won the toss and chose to bowl first.
Apart from Iyer, Sam Billings and Ajinkya Rahane made their KKR debut. For Chennai Super Kings, Ravindra Jadeja made his captaincy debut, while Devon Conway, Adam Milne, and Shivam Dube made their CSK debuts.
CSK barely managed to get past 100 runs batting first as KKR bowlers ran rampant.
India batting legend Sachin Tendulkar was all praises for KKR keeper Sheldon Jackson, whose quick leg-side stumping of Robin Uthappa reminded the former India captain of former CSK skipper MS Dhoni.

35-year-old Sheldon Jackson was quick to remove the bails leg-side as Robin Uthappa ventured outside the crease against Varun Chakravarthy. He collected the ball and removed the bails in a flash which made sure KKR are right back after jolting CSK early.
“That was an outstanding stumping. @ShelJackson27’s speed reminded me of @msdhoni. Lightning fast,” Sachin Tendulkar exclaimed on Twitter.
Meanwhile, MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja put together 70* runs for the 6th wicket, with Dhoni making 50* with 7 fours and 1 six, while Jadeja made 26 with one six as CSK finished on 131/5.
