Batting great Sunil Gavaskar on Friday (25th March) said that IPL 2022 will be a great opportunity for Suryakumar Yadav to cement his place in the Indian side for T20 World Cup 2022.
Suryakumar has been one of the main architects behind MI’s success in the last few seasons. The right-hander first played for the franchise from 2011 to 2013 and then returned back in 2018. Since then he has scored truckloads of runs for the franchise and has been the mainstay of their batting lineup.
His staggering performances in the league even earned him a place in India’s white-ball team. Suryakumar then carried his red hot form to the national team and made sure that he made his presence felt at the international stage as well.

Yadav was retained by Mumbai Indians ahead of the IPL 2022 auction and he is expected to play a crucial role for the franchise in the upcoming tournament, which will begin on 26th March.
Also, with T20 World Cup 2022 around the corner, many Indian batters would be looking to bring their 'A' game into the tournament and seal their place in the squad. Mumbai Indians batter Suryakumar will be one among them. He recently played the T20I series against West Indies and won the Player of the Series award.
Speaking on Star Sports, Sunil Gavaskar said that IPL 2022 will be a great platform for Suryakumar Yadav to book his place in the Indian team for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.
"It has been a wonderful last couple of seasons for Suryakumar Yadav and IPL 2022 is a great opportunity for him to cement his place in the Indian team by performing well again this season," Sunil Gavaskar said.

Gavaskar believes that the Indian team for the T20 World Cup 2022 will be picked based on IPL performances and Suryakumar needs to cash on the opportunity.
"The Indian team for the T20 World Cup will to a great extent be decided on IPL performances. So, Yadav has got this great opportunity to enhance his chances to be picked in the squad that flies to Australia," he said.
Sunil Gavaskar also talked about David Warner. He said that although Warner had a poor season last year, the southpaw doesn’t have to prove anything to anyone and will score heavily for DC.
"At this stage in Warner's career, he does not have to prove anything to anybody except himself. Last year was just one of those bad patches that every cricketer goes through, and he will contribute heavily with the bat for Delhi Capitals this time around," he said.
Yadav is likely to miss Mumbai’s first match against Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2022 as he’s undergoing rehabilitation. Overall in 115 matches in the league, the right-hander has scored 2341 runs at a strike rate of 135.71.
