Batting great Sunil Gavaskar on Thursday (24th March) lavished rich praise on Ruturaj Gaikwad. He said that CSK’s opener has very few areas to improve and all he needs to do is to score runs as he did in IPL 2021.

Gaikwad was the find of the IPL 2021. The young opener was one of the main reasons for the MS Dhoni-led side being dominant in the season and clinching their fourth IPL title.

The right-hander scored a total of 635 runs in 16 matches at an average of 39 and was a proud owner of the orange cap. He also won the emerging player of the season award.

Ruturaj Gaikwad on account of his domestic and IPL performances was rewarded the Indian T20I cap. Although he hasn’t got many opportunities, he has been regularly travelling with the national team lately. He was also retained by CSK, who paid him INR 6 crores, ahead of the IPL 2022 auction.

With only a day to go for the IPL 2022, many expect him to replicate his heroics from last season and play a pivotal role for his franchise.

Speaking on Star Sports, Sunil Gavaskar praised CSK opener Ruturaj Gaikwad, saying that he has very less areas to improve. He talked about the right-hander’s shot selection and pointed out that he doesn’t get ‘cowed down’.

"Ruturaj Gaikwad is another player who has very little areas to improve. There is nothing really required as far as Gaikwad's improvement is concerned. He has got all the shots in the book, but the most impressive aspect is his shot selection. Whatever shot he plays, he doesn't get cowed down,” Sunil Gavaskar said.

Gavaskar said that Gaikwad has all the shots in his book and all he needs to do is to keep scoring runs as he did in IPL 2021.

"He is not afraid to play the lofted shot when required and his shot selection has been very good in the IPL. So, there is very little that Ruturaj Gaikwad needs to do. All he needs to do is keep on scoring runs similar to last season," he said.

Chennai Super Kings will kick start their campaign against Kolkata Knight Riders on 26th March at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
