Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardena on Monday (21st March) took a jibe at pacer Jasprit Bumrah during their net session ahead of the IPL 2022.

The tournament will kick-start from 26th March in Maharashtra with a summit clash set to take place on 29th May.

Bumrah joined MI’s bio-bubble last week after the Test series against Sri Lanka. The Indian pacer after completing his isolation joined his other teammates and kick-started his preparations for the tournament.

During one of the net sessions, head coach Mahela Jayawardena poked fun at the pacer. Bumrah was bowling to Dewald Brevis with Kieron Pollard at the non-striker’s end. As the young South African batter played the fast-bowler, the West Indian skipper motivated him.

Reacting to this Bumrah cheekily said that "When I was young, I don’t remember words of encouragement coming from the non-striker’s end”. Jayawardena was quick to note the pacer’s comments and trolled him by saying "Mali (Lasith Malinga) was there. You didn’t understand it."

Everyone present there laughed. The franchise posted the video on their official Twitter account and captioned “And for a change... BOOM gets clean bowled! By none other than @MahelaJay!”

Bumrah has been the prolific wicket-taker for Mumbai Indians in the IPL. The right-arm pacer has taken 130 wickets at an economy and average of 7.42 and 23.05 respectively in the 106 games he has played so far.

On the other hand, Lasith Malinga, who played for Mumbai Indians, is the highest wicket-taker in the history of the IPL with 170 scalps to his name. He will be joining Rajasthan Royals as a fast-bowling coach for the IPL 2022.

Mumbai Indians will kick-start their IPL 2022 campaign against Delhi Capitals. The clash will take place on March 27 at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
