India batter KL Rahul recently opened up about his decision to leave Punjab Kings (PBKS). He cited it as a tough call and said he wanted to see what was in the store for him.
Rahul’s name not being on the list of Punjab Kings’ retentions came as a big surprise to many. PBKS retained only two players in Mayank Agarwal and Arshdeep Singh.
Notably, days before announcing the retention list many media reports suggested that KL Rahul wants to leave Punjab Kings as he wants to go to auction and lead some other team.

He then was named as one of the drafts picks of Lucknow Super Giants, who paid him INR 17 crore and made him their skipper. Rahul now has opened up about his decision to leave Punjab Kings.
Speaking to Red Bull cricket, KL Rahul admitted that he had a great run with Punjab Kings and to part ways with them was a tough call for him. He said that he wanted to try something different.
“I have been with them for four years and I’ve had a great run with them. Just wanted to see what’s in store for me and if there’s a new journey for me. It was a tough call obviously. I have been attached to Punjab for a long time. I wanted to see if I can do something else,” Rahul said.
KL Rahul has been one of the prolific run-getters for Punjab Kings. The right-handed batter joined the franchise in 2018 and set the stage on fire in his first innings for the franchise by smashing the fastest half-century in the history of IPL.
He scored 659 runs in his debut season for Punjab Kings in IPL 2018 and then followed it with the 593, 670 and 626 runs in the next three editions of the marquee tournament. Rahul also captained the franchise in IPL 2020 and IPL 2021 but failed to take the team to glory as they couldn't reach the playoffs in both editions.
