Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) pace bowling coach Dale Steyn has arrived in India to join the franchise for their preparations ahead of the 2022 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
This will be the first coaching stint for the legendary South Africa pacer, as he joins Tom Moody (head coach), Simon Helmot (assistant coach), Brian Lara (batting coach), Muttiah Muralitharan (spin bowling coach), and Hemant Badani (fielding coach) in the support staff of Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Steyn has previously played for the franchise, and will hope to help them get back on track after a disappointing 2021 season which saw them finish last on the points table.
The franchise boasts of some exciting young pace bowlers like Umran Malik and Kartik Tyagi, apart from international stars Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Marco Jansen, T Natarajan, Fazalhaq Farooqi and Sean Abbott.
SRH shared a video of Steyn after his arrival, and wrote, "The Steyn-Gun is here and ready to fire. @DaleSteyn62 #OrangeArmy #ReadyToRise #TATAIPL,"
"Yeah, very happy to be back. I've been in India for quite some time so I'm quite excited to be back. Just driving from the airport brought back so many memories," Steyn said.
"I've been here before, whether with the South African or IPL teams, so I'm excited. A new role for me, a coaching role which I'm really excited about. It's a whole new role looking at the players, which is fantastic. I'm looking forward to hitting the ground running," he added.
