IPL 2022: WATCH - Ajit Agarkar expresses his happiness after joining Delhi Capitals (DC) as assistant coach

Ajay Ratra and Mohammad Kaif's contracts as assistant coaches was not extended by DC.

IPL franchise Delhi Capitals on Wednesday (23rd February) roped in former Indian pacer Ajit Agarkar as their assistant coach for the upcoming IPL 2022. 

Agarkar will replace his former Indian teammate Mohammad Kaif in the role. The franchise didn’t renew the latter's contract along with Ajay Ratra, who also served as the assistant coach in the previous season. 

Delhi Capitals coaching staff will be led by head coach Ricky Ponting along with Ajit Agarkar and Pravin Amre who will serve as the assistant coaches. James Hopes will be bowling coaching for the IPL 2022.

Talking about his appointment in a video shared by the Delhi Capitals, Ajit Agarkar said that he’s excited to be a part of the franchise. He remarked that they have a terrific squad led by one of the world’s most talented players in Rishabh Pant. 

“I am very excited to be part of Delhi Capitals squad for this season. I have been lucky enough to be a player and to be returning in a different capacity. It’s obviously very exciting. We have a young and terrific squad led by one of the most talented players in the world – Rishabh Pant,” Ajit Agarkar said. 

Ajit Agarkar further said that he can’t wait to get started and is looking forward to working with head coach Ricky Ponting. 

“And the coach Ricky Ponting has been a legend of the game. Looking forward to working with them, can’t wait to get started and creating some special memories,” he said. 

As per PTI reports, Agarkar will join the franchise after completing his commentary duties for India’s home series against Sri Lanka. 

Notably, Delhi Capitals bought 20 players in the IPL 2022 auction. The Rishabh Pant-led spent INR 47.40 crores in the event. Some big names included David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Mustafizur Rahman, and many more.
