Former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson is all set to return to the Indian Premier League (IPL) action, although this time in a different role. It is being said that Watson is all set to join the coaching staff of the Delhi Capitals (DC) ahead of the upcoming IPL 2022.

He is reportedly set to join the Delhi Capitals (DC) as an assistant coach for the IPL 2022. Notably, the former Australian all-rounder played for franchises like Rajasthan Royals (RR), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL.

He is one of the best performing overseas legends in the history of the IPL. The all-rounder amassed 3874 runs and also took 92 wickets in the world’s biggest T20 league. Watson last played for CSK in the IPL 2020, after that he retired from the game and is now an active commentator.

According to a report in Cricbuzz, Watson's former Australian teammate and DC head coach Ricky Ponting has recommended the former all-rounder's name for the post of assistant coach to the franchise authorities. Reportedly, both parties have already agreed on the terms and conditions, with only the signing formalities remaining. He will soon sign a contract with DC for the upcoming IPL 2022.

Meanwhile, an IPL source was quoted as saying by PTI, "He will join the Delhi Capitals as an assistant coach."

However, there has been no statement from either side regarding this matter yet, but Ponting is reportedly willing to induct his former Australia teammate into DC's coaching staff.

Cricbuzz report also suggested that former India pacer Ajit Agarkar, who played 26 Tests, 191 ODIs and four T20Is, has also agreed to come on board in principle as an assistant coach but the Delhi Capitals franchise officials are yet to confirm it. He is also seen in the commentary box these days after retiring from professional cricket.
