The five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions, Mumbai Indians (MI), acquired the services of Singaporean-Australian big-hitter Tim David for Rs 8.25 crores in the recent IPL 2022 mega auction in Bengaluru.

After failing to make the playoffs in the previous IPL 2021 season, MI will undoubtedly want to make a strong comeback in the upcoming IPL 2022, and they will expect David to deliver on a consistent basis after spending such a large sum on him.

Reacting to David’s maiden stint with MI ahead of the IPL 2022, former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson said that there will be a lot of expectations and immense pressure on the Singapore-born all-rounder from MI in the upcoming season, given the price tag.

Well, it is a fact that the huge price tag comes with a lot of expectations and immense pressure, and some players hold their nerves and live up to their reputation like England’s Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer, while some fail to deliver.

Shane Watson told on the ‘ICC Review’ show: “Definitely, with the high price tag, comes a lot of expectations and pressure from your franchise. It is not until you get into the same time when you really know how to absorb that pressure that is there. I have seen a number of players who have had that expectation and they thrived under it — Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer are those kinds of guys.”

The former all-rounder added, “But there are a number of guys, you can see that the pressure suffocated their performance. Tim David of Singapore plays in the BBL, first time he has got the opportunity to play in the IPL and he will play for Mumbai Indians, so there will be pressure. It does provide different complexities and it is exciting about the IPL.”

Notably, David has represented Singapore in 14 T20Is since his international debut against Qatar in July 2019. He has also been in selection plans for Australia due to his dual citizenship.

The all-rounder has experience of playing for various franchises across the globe, including the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL, Perth Scorchers and Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League (BBL), Lahore Qalandars, and Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and Southern Brave in The Hundred and Saint Lucia Kings in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
