Australian pacer Kane Richardson revealed the potential reason why he along with leg-spinner Adam Zampa went unsold at the IPL 2022 auction.

While the IPL 2022 auction saw over 200 players being sold to 10 different franchises, it also witnessed a number of star players remaining unsold. Some big names including Kane Richardson and Adam Zampa failed to attract any bidders at the event.

Both Richardson and Zampa represented Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2021 but they pulled out of the tournament midway due to personal reasons in the first phase and didn’t participate in the UAE leg of the league.

Talking about going unsold in the IPL 2022 auction, Kane Richardson said that he was more shocked by Adam Zampa not getting bids in the mega auction. He admitted that when he along with the leg-spinner left IPL 2021 midway he told him that this might come back and bite them.

"I was definitely more shocked for him (Zampa). To be brutally honest, when we left last year, in the circumstances early, I remember having a conversation with him. I said to him, look, this may come back and bite us, and at that time it wasn't a priority for us to be there. We wanted to get back to Australia," ESPNcricinfo quoted Kane Richardson as saying.

Kane Richardson further said that his decision to withdraw from the IPL 2021 midway could be a factor for the franchises not bidding for him. He remarked that he didn’t speak to any franchise but this could be the potential reason for him going unsold.

"So I think there'd be some kind of buyers that'd be pretty wary of picking us up thinking that we wouldn't come again. I definitely think that's a factor. I'm just speaking on what I think would be a factor in it. I don't know. I've never had a dialogue with a franchise or a person that says that's what would be the case. But I think I didn't go the year before as well with the birth of my boy," he said.

Kane Richardson recently shined for Australia in the third T20I against Sri Lanka. The right-arm pacer took three wickets for 21 runs and was also awarded Player of the Match.
