Mumbai Indians Director of Cricket Operations Zaheer Khan revealed why the franchise opted for left-arm pacers in the IPL 2022 auction and he’s glad that it worked out for them.

Mumbai Indians had a decent outing in IPL 2022 auction that took place in Bengaluru on 13th and 14th February. The five-time champions invested in young players and spent INR 15.25 crores to bring back Ishan Kishan and also roped in Jofra Archer, who will not play in IPL 2022, for INR 8 crores.

The Rohit Sharma-led side strengthened their bowling department as along with Jasprit Bumrah, who was one of their retentions, they roped in as many as six pacers. The franchise also acquired three-left arm pacers in Tymal Mills, Jaydev Unadkat, and Mohd Arshad Khan along with all-rounders Daniel Sams and Arjun Tendulkar.

Speaking in a show posted on Mumbai Indians official Twitter handle, Zaheer Khan said that Mumbai Indians were looking at the left-arm pacers in the IPL 2022 auction as they bring a different angle and work as an added advantage. He remarked that they are glad that it worked out for them.

“Look, a left-armer does bring a different angle and that does work as an added advantage, so we were looking at left-armers in particular and I am glad that it all worked out,” Zaheer Khan said.

Zaheer Khan further said that although they got four left-arm pacers in their side which went out of reach but they held their ground and put a squad on which they can have a lot of hopes on.

“We did get four of the certain left-handers which went out of our reach but we held our ground and made sure that we put up a squad together which we can definitely have a lot of hopes there,” he said.

Mumbai Indians filled all their 25 slots and spent INR 47.90 crores in the IPL 2022 auction. They had already retained Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav and Kieron Pollard.
