Indian pacer Harshal Patel felt lucky to be traded by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) from the Delhi Capitals (DC) before IPL 2021.
Patel wasn’t retained by the RCB despite being the Purple Cap holder, taking 32 wickets in the IPL 2021, but the franchise managed to acquire the services of their death bowler for INR 10.75 crores at the recently concluded two-day IPL 2022 mega auction in Bengaluru.
After returning to RCB for the IPL 2022, the pacer said that bowling in the death overs for the RCB in the IPL 2021 changed his career. Following a successful IPL 2021, he was called up to the Indian team.

As reported by ANI, Patel said in The RCB Podcast: “I spent six years of my initial IPL career with RCB and then three years with Delhi Capitals, and then they traded me. I was very surprised because I believed Delhi will keep me as a backup option.”
The pacer added, “I didn't think they would let me go, but luckily, they decided to let me go and RCB was very keen on bringing me on board from what I heard. I got the role of a death bowler in this stint and obviously, it changed my career.”
Notably, the RCB bought Sri Lankan leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga (Rs 10.75 crores), Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood (Rs 7.75 crores), South African batsman Faf du Plessis (Rs 7 crores), Indian wicket-keeper batters Dinesh Karthik (Rs 5.5 crores), Anuj Rawat (Rs 3.4 crores), left-arm orthodox bowler and left-hand batsman Shahbaz Ahamad (Rs 2.4 crores), West Indies all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford (Rs 1 crore) at the recent IPL auction.
