Punjab Kings (PBKS) head coach Anil Kumble on Saturday (12th February) said that his side had a clear vision and we're looking to build a strong core team around their retained players on day one of the IPL 2022 mega auction.
Punjab Kings had an impressive Day 1 of the IPL 2022 auction, as the franchise acquired big names in Shikhar Dhawan (₹8.25 crores), Kagiso Rabada (₹9.25 crores), and Jonny Bairstow (₹6.75 crores) to strengthen their squad.
They also bought some young talented players in Rahul Chahar, Shahrukh Khan Ishan Porel, Harpreet Brar, Prabhsimran Singh, and Jitesh Sharma.

Speaking about their buys, PBKS head coach Anil Kumble said that they had a clear vision of who they wanted to bring in the team and we're looking to build a strong core team around their retained players. He added that they are looking to add balance to their squad and are looking forward to the Day 2 of the IPL 2022 auction.
"We had a clear vision of who we wanted to bring into our team at the auction. We were looking to build a strong core team around our retained players and we're looking at players that would add balance to our squad. We got some interesting picks and are looking forward to tomorrow when our squad will be complete,” Anil Kumble said.
Talking about the same CEO of Punjab Kings Satish Menon said that they walked into the auction with a clear strategy and were looking to build a strong group for years to come. He added that they are sure that they’ll buy some exceptional players on the second day of the auction.
"We went into the auction with a clear strategy in mind. We were looking to forge new partnerships and build a strong group of players that would serve as a stable foundation for years to come. We got some great players today and our team is starting to come together and we are sure to get some exceptional players tomorrow as well, Satish Menon said.
Entering the mega auction, PBKS had a purse of INR 72 crores, the highest among all teams. The Punjab-based franchise bought as many as 9 players on Day 1 of the auction and spent ₹43.35 crores. They will enter Day 2 with a purse of INR 28.65 crores.
