IPL 2022 Auction: "Baby AB" Dewald Brevis joins MI; Rahul Tripathi goes to SRH for a hefty sum

There was a lot of hype for Dewald Brevis during the recently concluded U19 World Cup 2022.

The Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) mega-auction saw franchises not holding back when it comes to paying a high amount for big names. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) spent INR 14 crore to get back Deepak Chahar and even Mumbai Indians (MI) didn't let Ishan Kishan go to a new franchise. 

For the next set, franchises were given a list of uncapped batters, which included fascinating youngsters like South Africa U19 star Dewald Brevis, and India's Rahul Tripathi.

Tripathi was the highest-paid player in the uncapped batters set after Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) fiercely bid for him. Interestingly, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) joined in late and they ended up making the winning bid of INR 8.5 crore.

Famously known as 'Baby AB' for his similarities with former Proteas batter AB de Villiers, Brevis was the talk of the town during the recently concluded U19 World Cup. He got sold to Mumbai Indians (MI) for INR 3 crore after they outbid Chennai and Punjab Kings (PBKS).
