Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) mega auction, all the 10 franchises have got a big relief regarding the availability of the South African players, as the Cricket South Africa (CSA) has decided to consider releasing some of their players for the upcoming IPL 2022.

On February 11, Cricket South Africa (CSA) stated that they would consider releasing some of the Proteas players who would be busy in a home Test series against Bangladesh during the first phase of the IPL 2022 for the upcoming cash-rich T20 league in India.

South African players like Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Anrich Nortje, Marco Jansen, and Aiden Markram could miss a number of the IPL 15 matches if they are now allowed to skip the Bangladesh Tests.

Lawson Naidoo, the head of CSA, told Cricbuzz on Friday (February 11): “The CSA said it will consider the matter but stopped short giving an unfettered commitment. We will consider the matter after the IPL auction has taken place when we know which players are going to play in the IPL.”

On being asked if the likes of Rabada and Nortje will be released, the CSA boss said: “The team management has not discussed the matter as yet.”

Notably, South Africa and Bangladesh are scheduled to play three ODIs and two Test matches between March 18 and April 11, while the IPL 2022 is expected to start on March 27, which means the Proteas players could miss five-six matches if they are coming after April 11.

Well, the CSA statement is indeed a big boost for the Proteas players in the IPL 2022 mega auction to be held in Bengaluru on Saturday and Sunday (February 12 and 13).
