Former New Zealand cricketer and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) coach Daniel Vettori on Tuesday (8th February) said that Glenn Maxwell can be an ideal candidate for RCB’s captaincy in the IPL 2022. He feels that the Australian batter is similar to Virat Kohli in many ways and can lead from the front.
Royal Challengers Bangalore is one of the franchises that will be looking to have a new captain ahead of the IPL 2022. With Virat Kohli stepping down as the skipper last season, the franchise will also face the challenge of finding a player in the mega-auction that can captain the side and lead from the front.
They can also look at Glenn Maxwell, who is among the retained players, as a captaincy option. The Australian batter has been captaining Melbourne Stars in Big Bash League (BBL) for the last two seasons. With him scoring truckloads of runs last season for the franchise, he can be a tempting choice for the team as skipper.

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo, Daniel Vettori backed Glenn Maxwell to captain RCB in the IPL 2022. He believes that Australian batter was retained with the view of being a captaincy option as he’s energetic and similar to Virat Kohli in many ways.
"I think Maxwell was retained with the view that he's a potential captaincy option. He's done a good job with the Melbourne Stars. He's been energetic, he's probably been in a lot of ways similar to Kohli, probably not quite to the same level or enthusiasm. But I think he's definitely a guy who has led from the front," Daniel Vettori said.
Vettori further said that Virat Kohli will have a say in naming the next captain for RCB. He further mentioned that Mayank Agarwal will be the perfect choice for Punjab Kings as their skipper and also talked about KKR’s captaincy option.
“I'm sure Kohli will have a say in that as well, he's been crucial to the franchise, he'll definitely have some input. That is a viable option for RCB. Mayank would be perfect for Punjab, that just really leaves two teams searching for captains in the auction. KKR are a team that relies heavily on analytics, so they'll want a captain who can fit into that mold," he said.
RCB has retained Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, and Mohammed Siraj ahead of the IPL 2022.
A total of 590 players are set to go under the hammer in the IPL 2022 auction, which will take place on 13th and 14th February in Bengaluru.
