Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik said that it’ll be great if he can play for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the upcoming IPL 2022. A total of 590 players are set to go under the hammer in the IPL 2022 auction on 13th and 14th February.

The excitement for IPL 2022 auction is increasing day by day as the two-day event is just around the corner. The event is just a few days away and will take place in Bengaluru.

One name of Dinesh Karthik is expected to fetch a whopping amount, given his experience in the IPL, as he has for 6 IPL franchises in his career.

The Tamil Nadu cricketer has represented Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings, the now-defunct Gujarat Lions, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians, and Kolkata Knight Riders respectively.

Karthik, who captained KKR in IPL 2018 and 2019, was not retained by KKR ahead of the IPL 2022 auction as they went in for Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy, and Venkatesh Iyer.

Speaking to PTI, Dinesh Karthik said that it’s tough for him to pick a team of his choice for IPL 2022. He remarked that whichever team he played for he’ll try to do well.

"It's very hard for me to answer this question because it will be a very cliched answer. I'll try and do everything that I can, not only to do well for the franchisee I play for but for myself also," Dinesh Karthik said.

Karthik said that it’ll be great if he can play for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) which is based out of his home state, Tamil Nadu. He remarked that whichever team he plays for it’ll be an honor for him as he has been practicing hard for the IPL.

“Look, it's great if I can play for CSK. I'm from Chennai. But at the end of the day, what's important for me is whichever team that I get to play in, it will be an absolute honor because as I said, all this practice that I've been doing these days is to try and do well in a tournament like the IPL,” he said.

Dinesh Karthik cited the examples of Shikhar Dhawan, and Pakistan's Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Hafeez to state that age isn't a big factor when it comes to international cricket. Instead, he said, expectedly can be key to winning multi-nation tournaments.

“Age is definitely not the thing that a lot of normal people look at it (for India comeback). Shikhar Dhawan was the highest run-getter (in ODIs in South Africa) and we are the same age.

“People tend to figure out, understand their body, the amount of cricket they can play and all of those reasons, like a big example, was the way you know Shoaib Malik and Hafeez were able to contribute to Pakistan in the T20 World Cup.

“Experience is a very important factor in multi-nation tournaments. You could see that very evidently in the last few tournaments that have been held,” he said.

Dinesh Karthik recently scored a century in the final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021. The wicket-keeper batter has played 213 IPL matches and scored 4046 runs, including 19 fifties.
