IPL 2022: Twitterati troll Lucknow franchise for keeping team name similar to now-defunct Pune franchise

The Lucknow IPL team will be called “Lucknow Super Giants”.

IPL 2022 will to be a 10-team competition | BCCIThe new Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise from Lucknow on Monday (January 24) announced their name, days after asking the fans to suggest a good name for the team.

Taking to Twitter, Lucknow’s official handle revealed that the team will be called “Lucknow Super Giants”, which left the fans disappointed.

The Lucknow franchise was bought by RP Sanjiv Goenka Group (RPSG) in October last year for approximately ₹7000 crore (over 932 million USD).

In IPL 2016 and 2017, the RPSG group had owned the now-defunct franchise Rising Pune Supergiants.

Going with a similar name led to disappointment among the fans and they hilariously trolled the franchise on Twitter.

Here are the reactions:

Last week, Lucknow Super Giants signed KL Rahul, Marcus Stoinis and Ravi Bishnoi as part of their three draft picks ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction.

Although IPL Governing Council had set INR 15 crore, INR 11 crore and INR 7 crore for teams to retain three players, Lucknow bought Rahul as Player 1 for a whopping INR 17 crore. On the other hand, Stoinis, who has been roped in as Player 2, will receive INR 9.2 crore while uncapped Ravi Bishnoi will get INR 4 crore.
