Jammu and Kashmir youngsters Umran Malik and Abdul Samad were retained by the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for INR 4 crores each ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) mega auction.

The uncapped youngsters were one of the biggest surprises chosen by the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on November 30 ahead of the mega IPL 2022 auction, as they let go of the seasoned Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan for the pace sensation Malik and all-rounder Samad for the IPL 2022.

After being picked by the SRH for the IPL 2022, Samad expressed his gratitude towards the franchise for showing faith in him and said that it is a huge thing for the state that he and Malik have been retained ahead of the mega IPL 2022 auction.

The all-rounder also stated that he has great camaraderie with stalemate Umran and now they will bear a lot of responsibility after SRH chose them over other stars such as Rashid Khan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Samad told Sports Tak: “It is a huge thing for the state of Jammu & Kashmir that me and Umran Malik, both uncapped players, have been retained. We talk on a daily basis, and he was telling me that it would be great if we end up on the same team. We are like brothers. There will be a lot of responsibility on us.”

He further added, “Yes, I was expecting to be retained but there were many big players the franchise could have retained. It is a very huge thing for me that they have shown such faith. Can’t describe the feeling I had when I found I was getting retained.”

However, the 20-year-old wants to see Rashid Khan back in SRH colors, as he is hoping that SRH will manage to get back some of the released players in the IPL auction.

Samad signed off by saying, “Will miss the players who were not retained, hopefully, we manage to get hold of as many of those players as we can in the auction. I wish that we get all the players back but if we see for the sake of the team, I wish to see Rashid Khan back.”
