Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) retained former captain Virat Kohli, Australia's Glenn Maxwell, and pacer Mohammed Siraj ahead of the mega auction for IPL 2022. Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was released by the Bangalore-based franchise and now he will be in the auction.

The 31-year-old posted a tweet to RCB after the retention list was out and thanked the franchise. "Thank you for everything @RCBTweets," wrote the leggie on Tuesday (November 30).

Chahal wasn't part of RCB's 2018 retained players, but the franchise had bought him back in the auction. It will be interesting to see if they succeed in making the highest bid for him in the upcoming mega-auction, or let him go.

The wrist-spinner hasn't had a good year as he was earlier left out of India's T20 World Cup 2021 squad. He wasn't impactful in the first half of the IPL 2021 and picked up only four wickets in 7 matches, but the leggie put on a great show in the UAE leg; bagging 14 wickets in 8 games.

Chahal had joined RCB in 2014, after making his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians in 2011, and he played 113 matches for the franchise. Chahal picked up 139 wickets while playing for Bangalore with an economy of 7.58 and a strike rate of 17.44.
