IPL 2022: Ravi Shastri likely to join new IPL franchise Ahmedabad as head coach: Report

Shastri will finish his tenure as India head coach after the conclusion of the ongoing T20 World Cup.

Ravi Shastri and Bharat Arun | GettyThe newly inducted IPL franchise based in Ahmedabad is likely to rope in outgoing Indian coaching staff Ravi Shastri, Bharat Arun, and R Sridhar for the 2022 edition of the tournament.

Notably, Shastri, Arun, and Sridhar will finish their stint as coaches of the Indian cricket team after the conclusion of the ongoing T20 World Cup in UAE. In fact, BCCI has already appointed Rahul Dravid as Shastri's successor.

According to a Cricbuzz report, Shastri has been offered the head coach's position by the Ahmedabad franchise and he is also keen to have a stint with an IPL team.

However, Shastri will only take a call after the T20 World Cup as he does not want any distractions during the tournament. If the former Indian cricketer accepts the offer, Bharat Arun and R Sridhar will be part of his staff.

The report further states that CVC Capitals, the promoters of the Ahmedabad-based franchise, are understood to be eager to finish the deal early as they want to build a team culture from the very beginning.

The 2022 edition of Indian Premier League will feature 10 teams. Last month, RPSG Group secured Lucknow as their home base with a winning bid of INR 7090 crores while CVC Capital opted for Ahmedabad with a bid of Rs 5625 crores.

The cash-rich tournament will also see a mega-auction ahead of the 2022 season. The existing eight teams have been allowed to retain a maximum of four players while the two new franchises will have an option of signing three players from outside the auction pool.
