Former South African cricketer Shaun Pollock said that he’ll be surprised to see Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni returning to play the IPL next year.

MS Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings to their fourth IPL title after beating Kolkata Knight Riders in the final by 27 runs on 15th October. While his captaincy was spot on, the wicketkeeper-batter didn’t have the greatest of seasons with the bat as he scored only 114 runs in 16 matches he played.

With MS Dhoni winning almost everything as a skipper and failing to contribute with the bat, many fans and pundits feel that this might be the last season they saw the CSK skipper playing.

It’s not a brainer that die-hard fans would want him to continue and even he himself gave hint that he’ll play next year when during the post-match presentation. He was asked about the legacy he feels he has left behind, to which the former India skipper responded that “he still hasn’t left”.

However former South African cricketer Shaun Pollock feels that MS Dhoni has achieved everything as a skipper and the way they bounced back after having a horrendous season last year is tremendous. He feels it would’ve been very disappointing had he not played this year and had announced his retirement last year.

“What more he (Dhoni) has to prove, to play in your 40s, to have won as many trophies as he has, bounce back from the previous year. It would have been very disappointing had he not played this year and finished last year, but sometimes things just allow and the timing seems perfect,” Shaun Pollock said during an interaction on Cricbuzz.

Shaun Pollock further said that MS Dhoni might announce his retirement in two weeks and he’ll be very surprised if the right-handed batsman returned to play another season next year.

“I think you'll see it in two weeks but I'll be very surprised to see him return,” he said.

After adding another feather in his cap, the next assignment for MS Dhoni will be mentoring Team India in the ICC T20 World Cup and it is learned that the former skipper has joined the team in their bio bubble.
