Chennai Super Kings (CSK) MS Dhoni's future with the franchise has been in discussion lately as the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 ended on a high for him. CSK defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL 2021 final by 27 runs and now the question is whether Dhoni will continue to play for the franchise with mega-auction coming up.

Former Pakistan cricketer Salman Butt, while speaking on his YouTube channel, lauded the Super Kings for stopping KKR in the final who looked like picking up momentum in the second phase of IPL 2021. He believes the experience in the CSK side is what put them ahead of Kolkata to win their fourth IPL title.

"CSK are champions again and like Batman returns, Dhoni has also returned. We did mention that KKR had momentum and it is difficult to stop that momentum. But it was experience that was always going to catch up with momentum.

“I also feel that KKR missed a trick by opting to bowl after winning the toss. Today's pitch was different and chasing in a final is never easy. It is always better to bat first when up against a captain Dhoni and an experienced team like CSK. KKR rely on their spinners, so they could have looked to put up a total first and then look to defend it,” he explained.

Butt added that Dhoni may continue playing for CSK and he's looking younger with time. Dhoni, 40, didn't make it clear at the end of IPL 2021 final about his future with CSK as a player and he said it all depends on the new retention policy before the mega-auction.

“It was a fairytale (ending for CSK). Even now, if Dhoni wants, he could say that ‘I will not play next year’ but you never know, he is beginning to look younger," he said.
